Day 1: Arrive in Windhoek

Touch down in Namibia’s capital and collect your fully equipped rental vehicle - everything you’ll need for the adventure ahead. Your first night is spent in a guest room at Urban Camp B&B, a welcoming base where shaded trees, canvas tents and a relaxed atmosphere make it easy to unwind after your journey. With restaurants and cafés just a short walk away, this is the ideal place to ease into the rhythm of Namibian travel.

Day 2: Sossusvlei

Leave the bustle of Windhoek behind and journey southwest through the Khomas Highlands before descending into the desert plains. The scenery transforms dramatically as the rolling hills give way to open horizons and red dunes. By late afternoon, you’ll reach the Sesriem Oshana Campsite, where you’ll set up camp under the desert sky and enjoy your first evening of true wilderness solitude. As the sun sets, the dunes glow deep orange and the stars emerge in their thousands.

Day 3: Sossusvlei  / Deadvlei 

Rise before dawn for one of Namibia’s most iconic sights - Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. 
Drive through the dunes in the soft morning light and stop at Dune 45, where those who climb are rewarded with sweeping views over a sea of sand. Continue deeper into the desert to reach Deadvlei, a striking white clay pan dotted with centuries-old acacia skeletons. Later, visit Sesriem Canyon, carved over millennia by the Tsauchab River. Return to camp in time for a fiery sunset and another night beneath the southern stars.

Day 4: Swakopmund

Today’s drive takes you through some of the country’s most scenic desert passes, including Gaub and Kuiseb, where deep gorges cut through layers of ancient rock. Stop for coffee and apple pie in Solitaire, a quirky desert outpost, before continuing to the coast. The air cools as you reach Swakopmund, a coastal town known for its German colonial charm and oceanfront promenades. Relax at Desert Jackal Guesthouse, your comfortable home for the next two nights.

Day 5: Swakopmund

Spend the day exploring Swakopmund at your own pace. For adventure, join a Living Desert Tour to uncover the hidden life of the dunes, go quad biking or sandboarding, or head to nearby Walvis Bay for a dolphin and seal cruise on the Atlantic. Prefer something slower? Wander the town’s craft markets, enjoy seafood by the sea, or simply soak up the relaxed coastal atmosphere before another night in town.

Day 6: Spitzkoppe

Leave the coast behind and head inland to Spitzkoppe, a dramatic cluster of granite peaks rising from the plains of Damaraland. Often called the “Matterhorn of Namibia,” Spitzkoppe is a favourite among photographers and campers alike. Set up camp beneath towering boulders and explore the area's hidden caves and ancient rock art. As night falls, the sky becomes a vast canvas of stars - a breathtaking display of Namibia’s clear desert nights.

Day 7: Damaraland / Twyfelfontein

Continue north into the rugged wilderness of Damaraland, a land of open vistas and fascinating geological formations. Stop at Twyfelfontein, home to thousands of rock engravings left by ancient San hunters, and admire the striking Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain nearby. Luxury tented accommodation provides a welcome contrast to nights under canvas - proof that this safari truly blends camping and comfort.

Day 8: Etosha Park

From the rocky valleys of Damaraland, travel northeast to the vast plains of Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries. Enter through the southern Andersson Gate and make your way to Okaukuejo Resort, where you’ll camp within the park. In the evening, gather around the floodlit waterhole to watch elephants, rhinos, giraffes, and lions come to drink - an unforgettable experience in the heart of the wild.

Day 9: Etosha Park

A full day dedicated to wildlife viewing. Etosha's shimmering salt pan forms the centrepiece of the park, surrounded by grasslands and mopane woodland teeming with life. Follow the network of gravel roads to different waterholes, each offering a new perspective - herds of springbok and zebra, prowling lions, or perhaps a lone rhino in the dust. Return to camp as the sun dips below the horizon and listen to the night sounds of Africa from your tent.

Day 10: Etosha - East

Cross the park from west to east, stopping for game sightings along the way. Exit through Von Lindequist Gate and enter the private Onguma Reserve, an extension of Etosha’s ecosystem but with fewer crowds. Set up camp at the campsite, where you can relax beside your private fire or join a guided night game drive for a chance to spot nocturnal wildlife.

Day 11: AfriCat Foundation

Head south toward Okonjima Nature Reserve, the home of the AfriCat Foundation. Set up camp, surrounded by acacia trees and wildlife. Take part in a guided activity to learn about Namibia’s cheetah and leopard conservation work and enjoy a final evening in nature before your return journey.

Day 12: Windhoek

After breakfast, drive back to Windhoek, reflecting on the miles travelled and the variety of experiences - from camping under desert stars to sleeping comfortably in guesthouses and lodges. This itinerary captures the true spirit of Namibia: wild, vast and welcoming, all while remaining accessible to the budget-conscious traveller.
