Tarangire National Park - Only a few wildlife sanctuaries anywhere in the continent are able to offer characteristically African natural environments of the kind to be seen throughout this national park. The woodlands are dotted with gigantic baobabs trees and some of the most essential icons of Africa’s wildlife can be found easily; plenty of migratory mammals typical of the plains, big herds of elephants and buffalos as well as the big cats and mighty predators.

About the Area

Zambia, especially the Luangwa Valley, is famous for its incredible walking safaris. Here, our guests discover the environment on foot, enjoying eye-opening and exciting sightings. Experts have dubbed the South Luangwa one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The concentration of game around the Luangwa River and its oxbow lagoons is among the most productive in Africa, and is frequently referred to as "The Valley of the Leopard".

The countryside in the Luangwa Valley is remarkable. The vegetation is characterized by riverine forest which is wonderfully green all year round. The South Luangwa National Park offers spectacular wildlife viewing and is recognized as one of the best parks in Africa to encounter the elusive leopard. Elephants abound and expansive herds of buffalo are often seen. The Luangwa River is home to crocodile and sizeable pods of hippo.

One of the most well-known endemic species in the Luangwa Valley is the Thorneycroft's giraffe. Their distinctive pattern consists of large, irregular shaped brown to black patches separated by white to yellow bands.

Hopewell Private Game Reserve

Hopewell Private Game Reserve

Situated close to the Addo Elephant National Park and in South Africa’s beautiful Eastern Cape, Hopewell Private Game Reserve is easily accessible. We are a 30 minute drive from Colchester and a 50 minute road trip from Gqeberha’s airport (previously Port Elizabeth).

Our secluded Hopewell Lodge has sweeping views over the grassland and forest that typify the beauty of this diverse region. Perfectly positioned for panoramic views and designed to blend into the hilly landscape, our spacious African game lodge is perched above the elephants’ favourite watering hole, with a viewing deck which provides the ideal spot for afternoon cocktails and to enjoy our sumptuous meals.

Our Accommodation

The lodge is largely built from local stone. Furnished in contemporary safari style with a focus on comfort and relaxation, it is airy and light, with thatch to insulate against the African summer heat as well as fireplaces to ward off cooler nights in winter.

There are two comfortable lounges, a dining area for the days when weather does not permit al fresco dining, and an intimate conference room. The upstairs lounge has the lodges only television and the downstairs lounge is home to the bar.

We provide luxurious and stylish accommodation to a very limited number of guests. Connected to the lodge by a series of pathways and steps, there are four luxury suites named Buffalo, Nguni, Zebra and Rhino which are secluded in their own private patch of bush with sweeping views across the valley below. Each suite has a wide deck with an umbrella, deck chairs and sun loungers as well as plunge pools except for the Nguni Suite. The Nguni Suite though has a fabulous private bush gazebo with views over the waterhole below.

The open-plan interior of the suites flows seamlessly from a luxurious lounge to the sleeping area to the open bathroom. The rooms are light and spacious with large sliding doors that open onto the deck. The suites are not only luxurious but romantic too. Each room has a large fireplace between the bed and the large bath tub which has been placed close to the glass wall allowing for excellent views into the African bush.

Our Safaris

Thanks to our exclusivity, your guided safari is not disturbed by large groups of other game vehicles and viewers. Our proximity to the ocean also ensures that we are the only game reserve in the region to have thick grasslands interspersed with tall trees. This allows for unparalleled game viewing.

Hopewell Private Game Reserve exists on reclaimed farm land which, generations ago, was the natural environment of the Big Five and a host of other big game but was overtaken by farming. Our private Eden covers a 6600-acre reserve where the owners have made a principled conservation investment to restore and regenerate the farm land to its natural state.

On a safari today, just as 250 years ago, you are likely to encounter elephants, buffalos, hippos, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, leopard, warthogs, various antelopes and indigenous species that have been carefully re-introduced to maintain a balanced eco-system. By visiting our Hopewell Private Game Reserve you too are helping to preserve Africa’s natural beauty.

Indigo Safaris

Indigo Safaris

Creating tailor-made trips designed to make your precious spare time the holiday of a lifetime has been Indigo Safaris' passion since 2009.

Indigo Safaris has specialised in safari, diving, trekking, and tribal trips for more than a decade. Set up and run by ex-Field Guide, Adventure Traveller, and Underwater Photojournalist Christopher Bartlett, the management team is completed by Ines Moosmann, a safari specialist with more than 16 years experience garnered in Germany and London.

We provide impartial expert advice

Our Managing Director is a qualified guide and tour leader with 15 years’ experience and has led tours all over southern and eastern Africa. Combined, our small sales team of four has over 50 years Africa expertise up their sleeves, and we keep learning, spending up to six months a year on the road, checking up on current suppliers and potential new ones. We have visited the vast majority of the properties we send our clients to have been to every reserve and national park we promote, with Malawi being the notable exception (where we work with a very experienced ground handler).

We’ve got your back

Our network of contacts and suppliers is well-nurtured, and we keep a close eye on the quality and value-for-money of services provided. On the rare accessions that an issue arises, no matter how small, we know who to call. In the event of a serious problem we can be contacted anytime from early morning to late evening, though an elephant emptying your splash pool at 1AM is best referred to the lodge staff, as are mysterious nocturnal noises outside your tent.

We love the destinations we promote

We are incredibly passionate about all of the places we work with, especially our core areas of Africa and Papua New Guinea; their wildlife, their people and cultures, their histories, and their current challenges. We are a socially and environmentally conscious company. We are involved in wildlife conversation, marine conservation, human development, educational, and humanitarian projects across the continent, giving back around 30% of our net profits to a range of organisations and sponsorship programs.

Indigo Safaris Botswana

Indigo Safaris

Botswana specialist Indigo Safaris has a wide range of off-the-shelf and tailor-made tours with some excellent deals, from three days to three weeks.

A small, owner-operated safari company promoting ethical tourism in southern Africa with a strong focus on conservation and giving back to communities and wildlife with two decades of Botswana travel experience, we know the best lodges and camps in each price range.

About Botswana

Botswana is a land of dramatic contrasts - from the crystal-clear waters of the Okavango Delta and its fringe areas to the large elephant herds in the Chobe National Park and the unpredictable Savute Channel, which runs dry and floods seemingly at random. Blessed with some of Africa's most beautiful subtropical wilderness reserves and an array of exceptional wildlife, Botswana is an unforgettable safari destination.

The Okavango Delta is a magical oasis - water in the desert is a truly spectacular sight. The wide, grassy floodplains are host to a magnificent range of wild animals, including the specially adapted sitatunga and lechwe antelopes. Chobe National Park is famed for having Africa's largest single concentration of elephant, while Moremi Game Reserve is renowned for its brilliant birdlife. Despite it's arid nature, Savuti's waterholes are a magnet for wildlife. The less-heralded but prolific Khwai is one of our favourite spots; the landscapes of Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans are unique, and the Central Kalahari has a wonderful sense of isolation and is splendid for discovering the lifestyle of the oldest ethnic group on the planet, the San.

Livingstone accommodation is mainly along the river, and mid-range to high-end, with an excellent selection of activities to choose from, some of which are included; canoeing upstream of the falls, sundowner river cruises, steam train dinners, walking safari in Mosi-wa-Tunya national park. For a bit of adrenaline, you can add Helicopter or microlight flights over the falls and down the gorge, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and gorge swings, or a dip in Devil's Pool at the top of the falls in the dry season.

The main ports of entry are Lusaka and Livingstone international airport, from where you will be transferred by road or light aircraft to the individual destinations.

Indigo Safaris Kenya

Indigo Safaris

East Africa specialist Indigo Safaris has a wide range of off-the-shelf and tailor-made safaris as well as beach stays with some excellent deals and discounts, from 3 days to 3 weeks.

A small, owner-operated safari company promoting ethical tourism with a strong focus on conservation and two decades of experience, we know the best accommodation in each area and price range.

About Kenya

Kenya is generally considered the birthplace of the African safari. It is majestic Africa, offering immensely diverse scenery – from the palm-fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean in the East to rainforests in the West, immense fresh water lakes, desert landscapes and vast plains of savannah. All this is dominated by the Great Rift Valley which bisects the country from North to South and in the centre are the highlands, overlooked by Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain range.

Culturally, Kenya is as diverse and home to many different ethnic groups. They range from the Swahili on the East Coast where Arabic culture has had the greatest influence in shaping Swahili traditions to the pastoralist Masai and Samburu, the El Molo fisherman along the shores of Lake Turkana and the agricultural Kikuyu of the central highlands. This Eastafrican country, however, is ultimately renowned as a premier wildlife destination and you do not have to travel far from its capital Nairobi to see wildlife here.

The world famous Maasai Mara in the South West, is a mere 4 hours’ drive and 45 minutes flight from Nairobi. It is here that the legendary annual Wildebeest migration of up to 2 million Wildebeest and Zebra arrive around August, from the Serengeti plains in neighbouring Tanzania. They stay here for a couple of months, generally until mid-October when they begin their journey south to Tanzania and fresh new grasslands after the rain has fallen.

But it is not all about the migration. Kenya, with its abundant wildlife in its many and diverse game areas offers the most memorable and spectacular wildlife encounters, from lions & leopards hunting antelope on the plains of the game rich Maasai Mara to elephants drinking at waterholes in Tsavo; Grevy's zebra, the long-necked gerenuk, Beisa oryx, the striking reticulated giraffe in the arid country of Laikipia, Samburu and Shaba; Amboseli with its picture postcard back-drop of Mount Kilimanjaro; the shimmering waters of the Rift Valley Lakes, at certain times of the year, home to millions of pink-hued flamingos and Lake Turkana with massive Nile crocodiles breeding in its waters.

The main ports of entry are Lusaka and Livingstone international airport, from where you will be transferred by road or light aircraft to the individual destinations.

Indigo Safaris Kruger Park

Indigo Safaris

Kruger Private Reserve specialist Indigo Safaris has a wide range of off-the-shelf and tailor-made tours with some excellent deals.

A small, owner-operated safari company promoting ethical tourism with a strong focus on conservation and giving back to communities and wildlife with over 20 years of experience, we know the best lodges and camps in each price range and offer add-ons to Vic Falls and Cape Town, and beach breaks.

About Kruger Park

'The Kruger' is possibly the best-known safari destination in the world. Established in 1898, The Greater Kruger Park extends over some 22,000 square km (8,500 sq. miles). That’s the size of Wales or Massachusetts. It supports a total of 145 mammal species, 500 bird species, and 110 reptile species, including an estimated 13,000 elephants, 40,000 buffalo, 2000 lions and lots of rhinos. We aren’t allowed to say how many, but it is lots and lots.

The Greater Kruger Park is comprised of the Kruger National Park (KNP) and a number of private reserves next to the KNP. The fences between the private reserves and the KNP came down 23 years ago allowing the animals to move freely.

The KNP is managed by Sanparks, a government-run organisation, and covers about 80% of the total area. Tarmac roads run through the middle of it, there are numerous large rest camps, of which at least half a dozen have over 100 one to four-bedroom units, camping sites, and fast food restaurants catering to self-drive clients - not the kind of safari experience we promote to our clients and hence, we do not sell any of the government-run rest camps, but only very few, selected camps on private concessions within the Kruger National Park. Apart from that, we focus on the private game reserves adjacent to the KNP, which deliver a much better experience.

The private reserves are managed by groups made up of small lodges and camps. Many lodges and camps only have between six and twelve one-bedroom chalets or luxury tents. No self-driving is permitted, there are no tarmac roads, and vehicle movements are carefully managed, for a much more authentic safari experience.

We can arrange fully-inclusive safaris in the Greater Kruger, typically from 2 to 6 nights in length, with pick-ups and drop-offs from Johannesburg airport, which can also include the scenic Panorama Route, or one of the regional airports such as Hoedspruit or Nelspruit. For the more discerning client we also offer charter flights directly into the private game reserves. We work with a range of accommodation, from tented camps to luxury lodges, with game drives conducted by experienced guides in specialised open-sided safari vehicles, perfect for game-viewing, and half-day walking safaris with armed rangers. All the lodges have a watering hole, river, or lake, meaning that there is good chance of seeing wildlife when you are not out on safari too. Many lodges are also unfenced, so having interesting visitors around the grounds is not uncommon.

Of course it is possible to combine reserves. The landscapes of the individual reserves do slightly differ and combination itineraries with two or three nights in one reserve, then two or three in another are the best way of getting a variety of experiences and discovering different habitats. It also makes it easier to spend some time in the higher-priced lodges without blowing all your budget in three nights.

Indigo Safaris Namibia

Indigo Safaris

Namibia specialist Indigo Safaris has a wide range of off-the-shelf and tailor-made tours with some excellent deals on self-drive trips, private or group guided trips and flying safaris.

A small, owner-operated safari company promoting ethical tourism in southern Africa with the focus on conservation and giving back to communities and wildlife with over 20 years of Namibia travel experience, we know the best lodges and camps in each price range.

Tours in Namibia

Namibia, the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa is where you find the oldest desert and some of the oldest ethnic groups on the planet. A country twice the size of Germany but with just a fraction of the population. It is is the place to go to if your focus is not mainly on wildlife, but also on breathtaking landscapes, history and culture; and certainly if you want to avoid crowded places. Namibia also differs the most from all other African safari countries and is probably the one that offers the widest variety in experiences.

The highlights of any first Namibia trip are climbing the world's highest dunes and enjoying the breath-taking scenery of Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft National Park, exploring the German coastal town of Swakopmund as well as the shipwrecks and the world's largest seal colony on the Skeleton Coast, and of course, tracking down big game combined with watching waterholes in Etosha National Park much frequented by African wildlife.

For repeat clients and those who are keen to venture off a little further, we highly recommend to travel northwest to Damaraland, where you can find desert adapted wildlife and meet people from the nomadic Himbas. Or you travel all the way south to the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon, and the costal area around Luederitz with the German, diamond mining ghost town of Kolmanskop.

The stunning flora and fauna offers desert adapted antelope species like the oryxes, desert-dwelling elephants, lions, giraffes and rhinos that can be tracked on foot; cheetahs and leopards that can be seen up close at one of the many conservation projects, 2000-year-old Welwitschia Mirabilis and the very photogenic kokerbome (quiver tree) - just to mention the highlights.

There is a similar variety in itineraries and accommodation. We have been to Namibia many times and met, tried and tested many different service providers, car hire companies, lodges of all price-levels, campsites and routes. Whether you want to drive yourself, be driven and accompanied by a private guide, join a guided group safari or a luxury fly-in safari, all of this is possible and we gladly give advise and provide you with your dream Namibian trip.

Indigo Safaris Zambia

Indigo Safaris

Zambia specialist Indigo Safaris has a wide range of off-the-shelf and tailor-made safaris with some excellent deals and discounts covering Vic Falls, Lower Zambezi, Kafue, Liuwa Plains, South Luangwa and North Luangwa.

A small, owner-operated safari company promoting ethical tourism with a strong focus on conservation and two decades of experience, we know the best accommodation in each area and price range.

About Zambia

Zambia is one of the ultimate safari destinations in Southern Africa, away from the tourist crowds and sharing the breath-taking Victoria Falls with the neighbouring Zimbabwe. It features a large network of national parks. Permanent water sources like the Zambezi and the Luangwa River are animal magnets and a paradise for birders.

Zambia’s wildlife is outstanding in variety and numbers and well-known for its big cat population, wild dogs in growing numbers, and some of the biggest elephants we have ever seen. On top of that you can find some rare and unique species like the Thornicroft's giraffe in South Luangwa National Park and the Shoebill stork in the Bangweulu Wetlands. Zambia also hosts the world's largest bat migration in Kasanga National Park, for those who are after a wildlife adventure of a different kind.

Walking safaris were pioneered in Zambia and are highly recommended, either as a combination with your standard 4x4 safari or as your main safari experience. Another attraction is that night drives are allowed in all parks, providing a great opportunity to spot nocturnal species. River safaris are possible too and best on the Zambezi, but also possible on the Kafue River and in season on the Luangwa River. Accommodation is predominantly in small safari lodges and tented camps, which offer an authentic and personal bush experience.

Set in tree tops at the Sand River and about 3 km from the main lodge, we also have a conference venue which offers the perfect facility to host intimate wedding ceremonies or corporate conferences with the focus on business meetings yet providing the setting for complete relaxation at the end of the day.

Last but not least our services include Wi-Fi, free breakfast, airport transfer and housekeeping.

Feel the African heartbeat at Inyati Game Lodge when at night wildlife sounds fill the star-studded sky. Lions roar, jackals howl and hyenas laugh - to which African drums respond.
