Ai Aiba The Rock Painting Lodge

Ai Aiba The Rock Painting Lodge

We are dramatically set against imposing granite boulders in the foothills of the Erongo Mountain range. Steeped in history these ancient rock formations are the eroded remains of a volcanic complex about 130 million years old. Famous for its countless rock painting sites Ai-Aiba is a mystical exploration of nature.

Admire the magic of the breathtaking landscape, gently touched by the mystic colours of the setting sun with a choice of walking trails or sundowner tours.

Ai Aiba Lodge forms part of the 200 000 hectare Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy. This pristine wilderness area straddles the Erongo Mountains: a natural reserve within a vast volcanic crater complex, which boasts unparalleled biodiversity. At Ai Aiba Lodge, we like to encourage our guests to relax and take the time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the Erongo Mountains and the Bushveld. It is a perfect place to spend the day by the pool with a good book, or if the energy of the granite mountains inspires you, to take a walk or drive with one of our experienced guides through the mountains.

Our Accommodation

Towering boulders form the backdrop to the mountain facing chalets with views that incorporate the rugged landscape.

10 African inspired private chalets made up of 20 rooms provide comfortable accommodation that optimises the unique setting. Large windows frame the rocky outcrops and bush Savannah with its incredible display of endemic trees such as the Purple-Pod Terminalia. Sleep with your curtains open and wake up to see the pink and blue hues of the African morning sky colour the landscape.

Each air-conditioned room has a small lounge with a tea and coffee station and an electronic safe for valuables. The big bathrooms comprise of a walk-in shower and separate toilet. A small shaded verandah with a table and chairs provide the perfect spot to relax, listen to the bird calls and be at one with nature.

It is a special unique experience to stay here and to be in touch with nature. Airport Game Lodge is situated a mere 10 km (a short drive after a long flight) north of Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport to/from which we offer a FREE transfer (subject to using the WhatsApp location function).

Due to its location our lodge offers you the perfect start or end to your African journey, and is definitely the ideal location for travellers with early departures or late arrivals. We also have day rooms if you need some rest between connecting flights, or if you are looking for a base while exploring the treasures of Southern Africa.

Our Accommodation & Facilities

If you want to have a special, unique, unforgettable enrichment of your life, then our Airport Game Lodge should be your destination. Where else will you look at animals in nature when you open the curtains of your wall size window/glass door? - Instead of the door of the room across the passage.

We aim to be quiet and peaceful, although occasionally there is a genuine South African Braai (barbecue) with face painting and African dancing. Relax at our lovely swimming pool area or on the covered wrap-around patio.

Our luxury child-friendly accommodation is situated in a landscaped garden, overlooking the untouched bush and Rietvlei stream. For a good nights rest choose between 27 well-appointed en-suite rooms ranging from standard and luxury guest rooms to de-luxe rooms with many modern conveniences. We also provide some interleading rooms available for families travelling together.

There is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the lodge as well as a luggage and car storage facility, with several regular guests who “store” their vehicles/campers safely here. We are also a green-friendly accommodation establishment with solar geysers, energy saver lighting, recycling and laundry done with biodegradable detergents.

If you prefer to cater for yourself we offer a dining room area and a kitchen, in which you may prepare your meals.

Many guests order their meals to be brought to Airport Game Lodge via meal delivery service apps. Yet another option is to be chauffeured to and from a choice of several good restaurants in the area. There is no drinking and driving risk and it is very comfortable.

Our Activities

Bicycle rental is available for those who wish to go out and explore the off-site bicycle trails (additional charges apply).

Be it Yoga or fitness, it is in the fresh open air amongst trees and with small wild animals in front of you, at your pace.

The Highveld is 1.4 km above sea level. That means that there is that amount less atmosphere, which makes star gazing simply amazing when facing the Milky Way.

Stay for a few days and explore this exceptionally interesting area of our planet by doing some exclusive tours which are very conveniently based right here at Airport Game Lodge, e.g. to the Cradle of Humankind (various hominoid ancestral species - best information worldwide), safaris to professional wildlife sanctuaries (elephants to touch or observing cheetahs when at 120 km/h with 7 metre strides) or the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in a volcanic crater, or visit a diamond museum (after going 763 metres down  into a "live" diamond mine from which the biggest diamond ever was mined) or absorb the gold rush of the 1880's by visiting a gold mine. And there are also several very nice golf courses nearby.

Our friendly and helpful team at the reception is here to assist you with all your requirements.

In keeping with our sustainable approach to life, our beach loungers are locally made from mvingi hard wood and coconut rope. That gives each lounger its own character and a unique story to tell. We also used skilled local craftsmen to help us with the furniture. Cool white walls contrast with pops of colour from kikoi fabric, and add to the authenticity of our décor. Simple, distressed beach-style fittings have been carefully thought out so that everything you need is to hand, but with no clutter.

We offer a full housekeeping and laundry service, and we can add an extra bed to your bungalow for a child.

You can also catch some big air – Jambiani is a renowned kite-surfing destination and we can help you arrange lessons if you’ve never tried this exhilarating activity.

Dining

Prepared with passion and imagination, and served with a warm Zanzibari smile, every meal and drink at Driftwood Beach Lodge is a moment to savour. If you’re looking for our menu, you won’t find it here. That’s because it changes every season and every day. In fact, some of the ingredients are still swimming! We get our fish directly from the Jambiani fishermen as they return from their early morning trips, so it’s about as fresh as can be. Our chefs get inspired by each day’s catch - check the chalkboard to see what they’re recommending today.

Zanzibar’s wonderful climate means that local farmers can grow an amazing array of tropical fruits - some that you’ll recognise, and some that may be completely new to you. Why not join us on a trip to Stone Town’s market to learn more about what’s in season, or let us arrange a trip to a spice farm for you? After all, Zanzibar isn’t known as the spice island for nothing. Local dishes are aromatic, spicy and insanely flavourful - so enjoy!

Lantern-lit dinners in the Bandas or on the beach create a romantic ambience, and you can feel the stress falling away within minutes of arriving at Driftwood Beach Lodge.

Etusis Lodge

Etusis Lodge

Welcome to the jewel of the Otjipatera Mountains. The Etusis Lodge is a small oasis in the heart of our nature reserve. A row of grass-covered buildings built with natural stone from Etusis is your retreat after a long journey or the day's excursions.

Our Accommodation

The homely Etusis Lodge is situated in a beautiful private game reserve 40 km from Karibib and offers a choice of accommodation ranging from camping and self-catering to private bungalows with half board, some of which are wheelchair-accessible.

Relax at the pool to the sounds of nature or enjoy many activities, e.g. horse riding, game drives or nature walks.

Our Facilities

At the heart of the property is our restaurant and main building with the bar under a camel thorn tree. A sundowner has never tasted better - when you step out onto the terrace, you can enjoy the view of our embankment with the small waterhole, which is frequented by kudus, zebras and baboons. Behind it rises the Etusis marble mountains and the mighty Otjipatera massif.

Our grass roof bungalows are spread around our pool. A wonderful opportunity to cool off, especially during the warm lunchtime. A table tennis table offers further variety. Our small museum with artifacts from Etusis and the surrounding area from nature or history invites you to visit and also serves as a room for conferences.

We have a lot to offer - don't just come for one night but rather stay with us for two, or even better, three nights, giving you the chance to really experience Etusis and pursue various activities. To travel the 17km from the C32 only for one night in our - admittedly very beautiful - bungalows would be a shame.
