Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden

The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens were established in 1913 and is one of the most highly acclaimed botanical garden in the world forming part of the Table Mountain Nature Conservancy. The garden lies in the heart of the Cape Floristic Region, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

The gardens are a remembrance of the history of the area and celebrate the botanical diversity of the Western Cape, whilst also simply offering relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden includes a large conservatory exhibiting plants from different regions, including savanna, fynbos and karoo. Outdoors, the focus is on plants native to the Cape region, highlighted by the spectacular collections of proteas.
