Simien National Park
Massive erosion on the Ethiopian plateau over the years has created one of the world's most stunning vistas, with jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys, and sharp precipices plummeting 1,500 meters. The park is home to a number of extremely rare animals, including the Gelada baboon, Simien fox, and Walia ibex, a goat found nowhere else on the planet.
Because it is home to internationally threatened species, the park is of global significance for biodiversity protection.
The Simien National Park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
