Groot Constantia Museum 

The Dutch East India Company nominated Simon van der Stel to manage the Cape of Good Hope in 1679, according to history. He requested land from the Company after years of devoted service. He dispatched riders to gather soil samples on a regular basis in order to conduct research. He fell in love with the soil in 1685 and chose 891 morgen (about 763 ha) behind Table Mountain for its wine-growing potential and breathtaking landscape. Over the years the wines produced on the estate caught the attention of influential people across the globe - due to its impressive quality. 

Groot Constantia’s rich history shows how one man’s love of wine established South Africa’s first wine farm more than 330 years ago and how those 891 morgen of land formed the origins of the commercial South African wine industry, with Emperors and Kings such as Frederick the Great of Prussia and Louis Phillipe (King of the French) buying ‘Constantia Wyn’ at auctions across Europe. 

South Africa’s oldest wine became so celebrated globally, that it appears in Jane Austen’s novel "Sense and Sensibility" as a cure for a broken heart to be drunk to lift a character’s spirit as in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" by Charles Dickens. 

The Museum 

Its Orientation Centre in the Jonkershuis complex uses panel, object and archaeological displays to give an overview of Groot Constantia from the past to present, including slavery on the estate. 

Carriages are on display in the Coach House and in the historical wine cellar, while the Wine Museum exhibits wine storage and drinking vessels from antiquity to the early 20th century. 

The Homestead, with its exhibition of furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, brass and copperware, provides an insight into the life of a successful 18th to late 19th century Cape farmer.

Our Tours

Visit Twyfelfontein with its rock engravings, the Burned Mountain, the Petrified Forest and the Organ Pipes. We leave early each morning in an air-conditioned 4 x 4 Landrover and visit all these sites. We arrive back at iGowati Country Hotel in the late afternoon in time for a nap and then dinner.

See some of the most spectacular scenery in Namibia and the rock finger a sole remnant of an ancient Plato. Have lunch at the Rock finger lodge and enjoy your drive back at a leisurely pace. For this trip we leave at midmorning and return after lunch.

We visit a working himba village farm near Kamanjab. Learn some interesting facts about the Himba people and their way of life. For this trip we leave early in the morning and return late afternoon. Vehicle, guide/driver, lunch packs and soft drinks included.

A trip through the desolated area at the Skeleton Coast Park. Visit some of the old shipwrecks and have a picnic lunch on the way.

Visit the White Lady rock engraving at Brand Berg near Uis. The Brand Berg is the highest mountain in Namibia. Have lunch at the White Lady restaurant. We leave in the morning and return in the afternoon.

This has to be pre-booked to ensure that we are able to arrange it. A trip through the town of Khorixas the way the Damara people travel. We visit the town and have a drink at a local shebeen (bar) taste some of the local specialities like mopanie worm and interact with the Damara people, before returning to iGowati Country Hotel.

For a bit of adrenaline, you can add Helicopter or microlight flights over the falls and down the gorge, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and gorge swings, or a dip in Devil's Pool at the top of the falls in the dry season.

About Kenya

​Kenya is generally considered the birthplace of the African safari. It is majestic Africa, offering immensely diverse scenery – from the palm-fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean in the East to rainforests in the West, immense fresh water lakes, desert landscapes and vast plains of savannah. All this is dominated by the Great Rift Valley which bisects the country from North to South and in the centre are the highlands, overlooked by Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain range.

Culturally, Kenya is as diverse and home to many different ethnic groups. They range from the Swahili on the East Coast where Arabic culture has had the greatest influence in shaping Swahili traditions to the pastoralist Masai and Samburu, the El Molo fisherman along the shores of Lake Turkana and the agricultural Kikuyu of the central highlands. This Eastafrican country, however, is ultimately renowned as a premier wildlife destination and you do not have to travel far from its capital Nairobi to see wildlife here.

The world famous Maasai Mara in the South West, is a mere 4 hours’ drive and 45 minutes flight from Nairobi. It is here that the legendary annual Wildebeest migration of up to 2 million Wildebeest and Zebra arrive around August, from the Serengeti plains in neighbouring Tanzania. They stay here for a couple of months, generally until mid-October when they begin their journey south to Tanzania and fresh new grasslands after the rain has fallen.

But it is not all about the migration. Kenya, with its abundant wildlife in its many and diverse game areas offers the most memorable and spectacular wildlife encounters, from lions & leopards hunting antelope on the plains of the game rich Maasai Mara to elephants drinking at waterholes in Tsavo; Grevy's zebra, the long-necked gerenuk, Beisa oryx, the striking reticulated giraffe in the arid country of Laikipia, Samburu and Shaba; Amboseli with its picture postcard back-drop of Mount Kilimanjaro; the shimmering waters of the Rift Valley Lakes, at certain times of the year, home to millions of pink-hued flamingos and Lake Turkana with massive Nile crocodiles breeding in its waters.

The main ports of entry are Lusaka and Livingstone international airport, from where you will be transferred by road or light aircraft to the individual destinations.

About Kruger Park 

'The Kruger' is possibly the best-known safari destination in the world. Established in 1898, The Greater Kruger Park extends over some 22,000 square km (8,500 sq. miles). That’s the size of Wales or Massachusetts. It supports a total of 145 mammal species, 500 bird species, and 110 reptile species, including an estimated 13,000 elephants, 40,000 buffalo, 2000 lions and lots of rhinos. We aren’t allowed to say how many, but it is lots and lots.

The Greater Kruger Park is comprised of the Kruger National Park (KNP) and a number of private reserves next to the KNP. The fences between the private reserves and the KNP came down 23 years ago allowing the animals to move freely.

The KNP is managed by Sanparks, a government-run organisation, and covers about 80% of the total area. Tarmac roads run through the middle of it, there are numerous large rest camps, of which at least half a dozen have over 100 one to four-bedroom units, camping sites, and fast food restaurants catering to self-drive clients - not the kind of safari experience we promote to our clients and hence, we do not sell any of the government-run rest camps, but only very few, selected camps on private concessions within the Kruger National Park. Apart from that, we focus on the private game reserves adjacent to the KNP, which deliver a much better experience.

The private reserves are managed by groups made up of small lodges and camps. Many lodges and camps only have between six and twelve one-bedroom chalets or luxury tents. No self-driving is permitted, there are no tarmac roads, and vehicle movements are carefully managed, for a much more authentic safari experience.

We can arrange fully-inclusive safaris in the Greater Kruger, typically from 2 to 6 nights in length, with pick-ups and drop-offs from Johannesburg airport, which can also include the scenic Panorama Route, or one of the regional airports such as Hoedspruit or Nelspruit. For the more discerning client we also offer charter flights directly into the private game reserves. We work with a range of accommodation, from tented camps to luxury lodges, with game drives conducted by experienced guides in specialised open-sided safari vehicles, perfect for game-viewing, and half-day walking safaris with armed rangers. All the lodges have a watering hole, river, or lake, meaning that there is good chance of seeing wildlife when you are not out on safari too. Many lodges are also unfenced, so having interesting visitors around the grounds is not uncommon.

Of course it is possible to combine reserves. The landscapes of the individual reserves do slightly differ and combination itineraries with two or three nights in one reserve, then two or three in another are the best way of getting a variety of experiences and discovering different habitats. It also makes it easier to spend some time in the higher-priced lodges without blowing all your budget in three nights.

As already mentioned, Mozambique's never ending and totally unspoiled coastline is stunning and there a few nice places to stay and enjoy it from on the mainland. However, the focus for beach stays in Mozambique lies on the Archipelagos, which are the Bazaruto Archipelago just off the cost of Vilanculos in the south and the Qurimba Archipelago of the coast of Pemba in the north.

In addition to the Archipelagos there are few more places to highlight, like the Machangulo Peninsular which can be reached from Maputo and is an easy accessible and affordable option, plus a few places around Ponta do Oura, located right at the border with South Africa, which is a good place to look at for a beach extension after a safari in South Africas Kwazulu Natal region. 

Another great spot that is often overlooked is the lively town of Tofo in the south. Tofo is however most suitable for a more active beach stay, so for someone who would like to dive or surf as well and who also wants some options to go out in the evening. 

There are three main airports that serve the areas mentioned. Maupto, the capital city located in the very south of the country, Vilanculos, the gateway for the Bazaruto Archipelago and at the moment also for Tofo and Pemba, the gateway for the Quirimbas. Most flights will go via Johannesburg. The south of Mozambique can also be reached by road from South Africa.

Namibia, the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa is where you find the oldest desert and some of the oldest ethnic groups on the planet. For repeat clients and those who are keen to venture off a little further, we highly recommend to travel northwest to Damaraland, where you can find desert adapted wildlife and meet people from the nomadic Himbas. Or you travel all the way south to the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon, and the costal area around Luederitz with the German, diamond mining ghost town of Kolmanskop. 

The stunning flora and fauna offers desert adapted antelope species like the oryxes, desert-dwelling elephants, lions, giraffes and rhinos that can be tracked on foot; cheetahs and leopards that can be seen up close at one of the many conservation projects, 2000-year-old Welwitschia Mirabilis and the very photogenic kokerbome (quiver tree) - just to mention the highlights.

Our Vehicles

We own a fleet of custom-built Land Cruisers, renowned for being sturdy and adaptable, able to handle the roughest terrain. But owning the right vehicles is just part of the story because maintaining and servicing them is just as important when it comes to ensuring that our clients can travel safely and securely out in the African bush. Radios, heavy-duty wheels, first-aid kits, extra fuel tanks are all fitted for your safety; pop-up hatches, cushioned seats and armrests are provided ensuring your comfort.

Photo Ventures Namibia was established in 2009, and is a registered Tour Operator with the Namibian Tourism Board. The core focus of our company is to provide educational, photographic tours and sightseeing in the Namib Desert as well as boating in the ocean and other combo excursions. 

Our tours are not adrenaline rides and we do not condone wild and reckless driving in the desert areas. We also ensure that we do not drive in vegetated or environmentally and culturally sensitive areas. Visitors also walk on specific parts of the track, and no vegetation, fauna or other features in the desert are disturbed, moved or picked up.

Our Tours 

We specialize in travelling into the Richtersveld, a World Heritage site and home to the Nama (Khoisan) people. Embrace yourself in an authentic experience with history, cultural interaction and beautiful sceneries - an experience that will stay with you forever. 

Our speciality is also small group tours - from two to eight guests - to the Diamond Coast of South Africa and excursions into the Namaqualand to see desert flowers, indigenous succulent plants as well as wildlife and seal colonies. 

Alternatively, join us for game viewing and a photographic safari in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, visit the Augrabies Falls, put up tent and overnight on the shores of the mighty Orange River where stargazing is amazing, or come with us and experience a historical town walk through the diamond city of Kimberley and check out the stunning open air mine museum of this diamond digger town in its early days where you can also look into the Big Hole, the world-wide largest, hand-dug diamond excavation. 

While our tours normally start and end in Port Nolloth, arrangements can be made to be picked up at the airport in Upington or Cape Town. Whenever possible we will customize the tour to specifically cater for your interests, whether landscape photography, local culture or just the unspoilt beauty of the Richtersveld. We will also supply everything needed on the tour, including vehicles, well maintained equipment, putting up camp (if camping), preparing meals, among others, as well as accommodation in Port Nolloth before and after the tour.

Scenic Sandwich Harbour is part of the Namib Naukluft Park and a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. We get you there! Based in Walvis Bay, Our Sandwich Harbour 4x4 is the leading day tour operator in the Namib Desert south of town and Sandwich Harbour. Join us on our exciting excursions and outdoor adventures.

Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered by you!  

Once a commercial fishing and trading port, Sandwich Harbour is now a RAMSAR site (No. 743 - one of 5 sites in Namibia) with magnificent wetland wilderness as well as devoid of any human settlement, and one of Namibia’s most unique and dramatic sites. Situated a little less than 60 km south of Walvis Bay in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, here some of the world’s highest dunes descent into the Atlantic Ocean to form a picturesque lagoon. The lagoon, salt pans and the bird sanctuary, which form the Walvis Bay Wetlands, are rightly heralded as the single most important coastal wetlands of Southern Africa. 

Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, Sandwich Harbour is home to eight endangered species among the large numbers of wading birds.

Early evidence of human life is preserved, and the site includes several archaeological sites dating back thousands of years.

Shipwreck Sandwich Harbour Excursion - Full Day, 8 hours. If you are interested in experiencing the rugged beauty of the Namibian coastal landscape and dream of seeing an actual shipwreck stuck high-up on a beach in one of the world's most isolated places then this one-day excursion is designed for you. Experience a piece of Namibia's central Skeleton Coast exposed to the stormy South Atlantic Ocean claiming numerous ships over past centuries. Combine the scenic beauty and wildlife of the Kuiseb Delta and Sandwich Harbour, as we explore further south along the coastline an area where the Namibian coast claimed another victim, the Shawnee, a transport tug that ran aground on 16 February 1976. 

Sailing Desert Adventure - Full Day, 8 hours. This Sailing Desert Adventure provides the ultimate combination of viewing our marine life on a leisure sailing cruise on the Atlantic Ocean with our affiliate Catamaran Charters, and exploring our fauna and flora with a ride in the breathtaking Sandwich Harbour Area of the Namib Naukluft Park.

Sandwich Harbour 4x4 Excursion - Full Day, 6 hours. From our office at the Waterfront in Walvis Bay we head to the Walvis Bay Lagoon with its masses of flamingos, and weather / tide permitting further on to the scenic Sandwich Harbour Lagoon. Enjoy a light lunch (including snacks, oysters, drinks and sparkling wine) overlooking the Atlantic ocean or spectacular dunes, and on our way home an exhilarating four-wheel drive over majestic dunes where you can see typical desert flora and fauna, e.g. a jackal, springboks, ostriches, oryx antelopes and lizards.  

Sandwich Harbour 4x4 Scenic Excursion - Half Day, 4 hours. The above mentioned tour is also available as a morning excursion starting at 08h30 and returning at around 12h30, or as an afternoon excursion starting at 12h30 and returning at around 16h30.

Walvis Wetlands Birding - Half Day, 4 hours. Join our morning birding excursion starting at 08h30 and returning at 12h30, or the afternoon excursion leaving at 13h00 and returning at 17h00. Possible sightings include over 150 species of bird that have been recorded in this region, including Intra-African migrants, e.g. two flamingo species, European and northern Siberian migrants, as well as Palaearctic terns and resident birds such as huge great white pelicans amongst others. If you’re a serious ticker, you might get lucky further inland and see Namibia’s only true endemic bird, the Dune Lark.

Sundowner Photography Excursion - Sunset, 4 hours. The desert is any photographer’s ultimate dream and nightmare all rolled into one. Whilst the landscapes are breathtaking, the conditions can be quite challenging. Let us ensure you get the most joy from photographing our beloved desert with spectacular results. When the sun has set and the light has diminished, we'll find a suitable place to stop and serve a selection of oysters and snacks with sparkling wine, beers and cool drinks. We usually do this on top of a high dune, between the dunes or on the beach. In summer we will be returning at around 20h00, in winter at 19h00.

Flying Dress Photo-shoot - 4 hours. Bring your favourite dress for an unforgettable Flying Dress photo shoot in the spectacular dunes of the Namib desert. We create a personalized and unforgettable photography experience to make you look beautiful and feel confident. While always with a goal of personalisation and originality, our photo shoot is the ideal choice for a special person, couple and family, or to enhance a special occasion such as a birthday, engagement or pregnancy. 

Shipwrecks & Diamonds - 3 Days. This three-day adventure provides the experiences of driving through some of the most spectacular dune areas, overnighting in a tented camp close to the ocean, viewing two shipwrecks, visiting areas of great historical interest and see untouched sceneries, fauna and flora.
