Africa Travel Co

Africa Travel Co.

One of Africa’s leading tour companies for African Adventure Tours. Since 1990 and with 3 operational bases in Cape Town, Nairobi and Victoria Falls, Africa Travel Co. is a completely African based adventure safari company which has operated overland adventures throughout Southern and East Africa.

We are one of the BEST established overland tour companies in Africa. This experience, combined with our professional attitude, has resulted in forming secure relationships with reputable travel agents and wholesalers worldwide who support and recommend us knowing that we offer a quality product and unbeatable service in everything we do.

Our Adventure Tours

Whether it is an overland trip, a family holiday or private safari, we offer you an African adventure tour to remember. Travelling from 2 to 56 days, we visit the highlights of Africa with guaranteed departures all year round.

We operate a fleet of specially built safari vehicles in 10 Eastern and Southern African countries, such as Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Uganda as well as Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. You will find lots of space for your comfort in our vehicles and their height provides excellent game viewing.

Our great value for money scheduled camping trips are accompanied by three crew members - a mechanically sound driver, enthusiastic and a knowledgeable trip leader as well as a safari chef who offers an extensive and varied bush menu.

Let us introduce you to a wide range of African adventure tours through Africa's ever-changing landscape. Most of our trips operate in both a north and a southbound direction, offering you the flexibility to fly into the most convenient departure point. If a southbound trip is fully booked you can enquire about the same trip in a northbound direction. With our frequent guaranteed departure dates there definitely is no shortage of choice of how and from where to travel with us.

Each year sees us introduce new and innovative itineraries which offer you a true African experience that benefits the local communities as well. It is important to choose a company that is based in the countries you plan to travel through. We are very “hands-on” with what is happening in and around Southern and East Africa and can provide comprehensive local back up to all our operations. We are also a registered company in five of the 10 countries we travel through.

We buy our provisions along the way as well as employ local people/operators as crew and for optional activities on the road and to operate our regional offices, thus contributing to the local economy and businesses of the countries we operate in. Travelling with a knowledgeable African crew also provides you with a true insight into the African culture and environment. We are sensitive to local cultures and our crew are on hand to advise on appropriate behaviour and dress, where relevant.

About Zambia

Zambia is one of the ultimate safari destinations in Southern Africa, away from the tourist crowds and sharing the breath-taking Victoria Falls with the neighbouring Zimbabwe. It features a large network of national parks. Permanent water sources like the Zambezi and the Luangwa River are animal magnets and a paradise for birders.

Zambia’s wildlife is outstanding in variety and numbers and well-known for its big cat population, wild dogs in growing numbers, and some of the biggest elephants we have ever seen. On top of that you can find some rare and unique species like the Thornicroft's giraffe in South Luangwa National Park and the Shoebill stork in the Bangweulu Wetlands. Zambia also hosts the world's largest bat migration in Kasanga National Park, for those who are after a wildlife adventure of a different kind.

Walking safaris were pioneered in Zambia and are highly recommended, either as a combination with your standard 4x4 safari or as your main safari experience. Another attraction is that night drives are allowed in all parks, providing a great opportunity to spot nocturnal species. River safaris are possible too and best on the Zambezi, but also possible on the Kafue River and in season on the Luangwa River. Accommodation is predominantly in small safari lodges and tented camps, which offer an authentic and personal bush experience.

Livingstone accommodation is mainly along the river, and mid-range to high-end, with an excellent selection of activities to choose from, some of which are included; canoeing upstream of the falls, sundowner river cruises, steam train dinners, walking safari in Mosi-wa-Tunya national park. For a bit of adrenaline, you can add Helicopter or microlight flights over the falls and down the gorge, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and gorge swings, or a dip in Devil's Pool at the top of the falls in the dry season.

The main ports of entry are Lusaka and Livingstone international airport, from where you will be transferred by road or light aircraft to the individual destinations.
