Salty Jackal Surf Camp
Centrally located to easily explore Swakopmund, our Salty Jackal Surf Camp and backpackers is all about surfing, sustainable living and extraordinary food. It's what we love and live for. We follow the wind, waves and tides and like to share our local knowledge and love for Namibia with our guests and like to show you around.
This is a relaxed town on our wave-rich coastline, buzzing with good coffee and nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert dunes. Mingle with like-minded travellers in our laid-back, personal atmosphere, share stories and good times. We are in walking distance to the beach, dunes, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, a laundry, and more. Swakopmund is a small town and perfect for getting around on foot, by bicycle or by taxi for those late nights.
Our Accommodation
Built in the 1960s, renovated in 2009, our eco-friendly backpackers hostel blends together old-world style and quality with modern, comfortable and simple living. Decorated to inspire surfing and quality food while also showcasing our breathtakingly beautiful country.
Sleeping in total 14 guests, choose at our backpackers between double and twin rooms or the 6-bed mixed dorm which has spacious bunk beds.
If you prefer to cater for yourself, we have a fully equipped kitchen as well as a barbecue area. Get some veggies or herbs from our beautiful, olive tree-lined food garden. Alternatively, sign up for our delicious home-cooked dinners.
Communal spaces and facilities include free Wi-Fi, table tennis, a mini gym, slackline and hammocks as well as on-site parking.

Whether it's your first surf lesson or you're a seasoned tube lord comfortable riding the longest, and one of the fastest and heaviest barrels on earth - Skeleton Bay - or anything in between, we are ready to get you stoked and filled up on Vitamin Sea! Our licensed and insured Salty Jackal has a multilingual team which takes you surfing according to your level.
Our Surf Camps
Surfing along the oldest desert in the world not only offers consistent, year-round quality waves for all levels with low crowds - on top of this, the Namib desert's mesmerizing scenery and the endless barrels of Skeleton Bay will remain etched in your mind. Be prepared, this place is wild. The desert climate can be harsh and you might surf alone with no soul in sight apart from some friendly seals and dolphins, while jackals surround the car on the beach - it's all part of the adventure. Our ISA qualified and first aid trained guides / instructors have in-depth knowledge of surf spots and local conditions.
Our surf camps are hosted at set dates throughout the year. Certain seasons are suited to beginners, others to more experienced surfers. Our surf camps run over 7 nights and days during which you will get at least 1 or 2 sessions / lessons on each surf day or full day trips to spots further away from Swakopmund.
What makes our surf camps unique is that on top of surfing quality waves in Namibia's breath-taking landscapes filled with wildlife, guests also have the option of free time activities for all tastes and budgets - this means that non-surfer friends and partners will enjoy our camps too.
Included in our surf camps are bed and breakfast, surf lessons as well as surf instructor / guiding and transport, the surf board and a wetsuit (also for kids), free flow coffee or tea, fruit and drinking water, a picnic lunch and a welcome dinner, fast unlimited Wi-Fi, a sundowner in the desert or a stargazing trip, an activity and safari booking service, a city tour of Swakopmund, fitness equipment, bicycles (4 are available) for getting around in town and group photos will be taken.
Not included but also available are surf photography and video analysis, a 3-day Namibia surfari (surfing and safari) for venturing further into our stunning country, as well as Yoga classes, an honesty bar and airport transfer. Tofo Beach Accommodation
Welcome to our affordable and child-friendly self-catering accommodation, Tofo Beach Accommodation situated in the lovely, prestine holiday town, Tofo and Tofinho (small Tofo) where we invite you to make use of our 3 unique, holiday houses which offer beautiful sea views and a homely atmosphere, just a stone's throw away from a beach and close to attractions – the perfect getaway destination in Mozambique.
Our picturesque, lively beach town has wide open, sandy beaches, diving schools, lots of good restaurants, chill out places and spaza shops as well as a lively market and is ideally located in Mozambique's popular holiday province of Inhambane, a 6 to 8 hours drive north of Maputo.
Our Accommodation
Our three holiday houses offer all the necessary self-catering facilities, linen and mosquito nets in the bedrooms as well as Wi-Fi which is free of charge at Casa Derika.
Casa Derika is perfectly located in the front row of houses on Tofo beach. With the beach right at your doorstep, it feels as if you allow it inside the house when you open the front stack doors. The cottage has 2 bedrooms and sleeps a maximum of 6 people. This house is equipped for self-catering and apart from the fully fitted kitchen it has one of the best braai (barbecue) locations in the world.
The Casa Isabel is also located at the beach front, between Tofo’s main beach and Tofinho’s surfing beach. It is truly a home away from home. The two verandas offer spectacular ocean views with frequent sightings of dolphins and whales. The 2-bedroom cottage sleeps a maximum of 6 guests, has a fully equipped kitchen as well and a nice outside braai area. Wi-Fi data have to be purchased.
Our Casa Christine is close to the famous Tofinho surfing spot and was hand built during the late 1990’s. All the bricks and window frames were handmade onsite without power tools. This cottage is a showpiece of Mozambique’s local construction skills and has 2 bedrooms as well as a loft, sleeping a maximum of 8 people. The huge veranda and braai area are enjoyable areas for your vacation. Wi-Fi data have to be purchased.
