Cairnbrogie MTB & Trail Park

Cairnbrogie MTB & Trail Park

Covering over 100 ha of coastal fynbos along South Africa's spectacular Garden Route, Cairnbrogie MTB & Trail Park is a natural playground for the fitness fanatic, mountain bike junkie or even a family looking for some time in the great outdoors. Cairnbrogie has it all, from forests to coastal cliffs and secret coves, tracks and trails, sporting events and a great venue as well as a cafe and even a dairy.

Here you've got way more than just a farm - This is a destination.

Our Activities

Cairnbrogie is blessed with a large area in which to develop MTB (mountainbiking) trails. Our aim is to provide intermediate skill riding for young riders. The learning of basic bike control skills will be a focus of the trails. Older more experienced riders can enjoy remarkable scenery on their way to the well know SANPARKS and Cape Pine MTB trails. Our kid friendly routes are the 1.3 km, a 2.6 km and a 4 km. The 11 km is not so kid friendly as it is long, but not difficult. It passes through some of the most spectacular scenery on the Garden Route.

Pump tracks are extremely popular among a multitude of riders and at Cairnbrogie we offer children and older riders a safe environment to be active on. The tracks feature a series of bumps/rollers that allow riders to use their momentum in order to gain speed and carry momentum. It is great fun so bring your bike, scooters, push bikes etc. and join us at the Cairnbrogie Pump Track.

With over 18km of walking trails within the Robberg Coastal Corridor plus exclusive access to the Cairnbrogie beaches, the Cairnbrogie estate has stunning routes for all fitness levels.

Bring your rods and at your own speed while away the day fishing for bass in the idyllic dam on the edge of the Cairnbrogie pine forest. Catch and release only.

There are also 4 dog walking routes of varying distances for you and your furry best friends to wander in peace and quiet. We absolutely love dogs but as a working farm and established mountainbiking trail park there are strict regulations in place for dog walkers. Dogs must be on leads at all times and the Coastal Route is an absolute no go area for dog walkers.

Cairnbrogie is a birders paradise and a popular venue for local Garden Route birding clubs. Take a seat at one of our dams or a slow stroll through the forest or fynbos laden coastal paths. Don’t forget to tag us in your posts if you spot something special - We would love to know and add to our growing list of sightings. Should you wish to enter Cairnbrogie out of our regular opening hours for a special sighting, please get in touch with us in order to arrange.

Desert Homestead Lodge

Desert Homestead Lodge

Only about 30 km from the entrance to the Sossusvlei National Park (Sesriem) and not far from the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the Desert Homestead Lodge is perfect for a stay in Namibia's world natural heritage region with the highest dunes in the world. The lodge is located in a private nature reserve of over 150,000 hectares, the “Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve”, which merges into the “Namib Rand Reserve” in the west.

Casual ease, panoramic views, extensive pool and terrace areas, good cuisine and the range of many activities characterize the lodge. The architecture is the modern interpretation of an estate with a horse stud. The furniture and equipment in the main building with restaurant, lobby and lounge, as well as in the guest houses, are harmonious and chic.

Our standard here is to be ecologically sustainable, thanks to the complete operation with solar energy, solar hot water and the further use of service water from the laundry.

Our houses are designed in the style of a thatched riding stables, the 20 guest houses convey rustic cosiness. The family house with a traditional grass roof is the suite of the Desert Homestead Lodge with a combined living room/ bedroom, built, decorated and furnished in the style of a riding house. With a bathroom and a separate further bedroom, it is ideal for families as well as for small groups of up to 4 people traveling together.

Etusis Lodge

Etusis Lodge

Welcome to the jewel of the Otjipatera Mountains. The Etusis Lodge is a small oasis in the heart of our nature reserve. A row of grass-covered buildings built with natural stone from Etusis is your retreat after a long journey or the day's excursions.

Our Accommodation

The homely Etusis Lodge is situated in a beautiful private game reserve 40 km from Karibib and offers a choice of accommodation ranging from camping and self-catering to private bungalows with half board, some of which are wheelchair-accessible.

Relax at the pool to the sounds of nature or enjoy many activities, e.g. horse riding, game drives or nature walks.

Our Facilities

At the heart of the property is our restaurant and main building with the bar under a camel thorn tree. A sundowner has never tasted better - when you step out onto the terrace, you can enjoy the view of our embankment with the small waterhole, which is frequented by kudus, zebras and baboons. Behind it rises the Etusis marble mountains and the mighty Otjipatera massif.

Our grass roof bungalows are spread around our pool. A wonderful opportunity to cool off, especially during the warm lunchtime. A table tennis table offers further variety. Our small museum with artifacts from Etusis and the surrounding area from nature or history invites you to visit and also serves as a room for conferences.

We have a lot to offer - don't just come for one night but rather stay with us for two, or even better, three nights, giving you the chance to really experience Etusis and pursue various activities. To travel the 17km from the C32 only for one night in our - admittedly very beautiful - bungalows would be a shame.

We believe that preservation is an integral part of conservation in the Northern Drakensberg. With this in mind, over the last 10 years invasive wattle trees have been eradicated from Montusi and the area rehabilitated by planting indigenous trees. This effort has culminated in the indigenous forests, and resultant indigenous birdlife, flourishing. Additionally, this has seen the return of mountain reedbuck, Vaal rhebuck, bushbuck and the elusive eland that have begun to populate this area once inhabited by the cultural group of the San.
